Hitting the ground running

I had a great class last night. I had the Silver newbies and Ann took the repeaters. My group could all do on the mat and sit stays without any problems and for the time required. Heeling was really good too. Pretty amazing for the first night, particularly as the dogs are all excited by their return to the grounds.

I'll need to nag about steering wheels and reins over the next few weeks though.

  1. Glad to hear Leslie that your silver class went well.
Jenny and I were discussing at training last night, how we could best divide the two silver classes on Sunday. Perhaps splitting the repeaters and new comers would be the way to go.

  2. Another suggestion is to get some of the more advanced silvers together with a new comer - that might be an incentive to both? Also set up some 'stations' similar to a gym circuit - then have a whistle to change every minute - one way not to bore dogs to death. You could do, for example, mat, a little heel section (3 witches hats - forward, right turn, about turn, left turn, end), touch, recall, box, sits/down/stands (any order but fast), spin. Again, you could set them in pairs and give each one minute for the exercise and one minute rest/watch - this way they might learn from watching what someone else does too.

  3. ooh, I like the idea of pairs - that might even work after the bronze class has had a few weeks to settle in

  4. The circuit is a great suggestion - I can see putting this in for week 5 when, for some reason, half the dogs seem to lose the plot for the night. I am intending to have some sit and weave cones for next week as well as a small heel pattern for people to do while we're doing re-calls. An aspirant would be great too.
