Best Gumboots or Waterproof Shoes?

Having worn soaking wet joggers for several hours last Sunday, I was reminded that I need to buy some good comfortable waterproof shoes. Now I do have some heavy duty hiking boots that will suffice, but I have seen some triallers wearing very funky gumboots and/or some waterproof gardening shoes made by "Sloggers." I know the fishing crowd also have waterproof shoes but do you ladies have any suggestions?

  1. I bouught heavy duty hiking shoes for our trip to Tasmania in November last year. The salesman assured me these shoes would be totaly waterproof.
I now use the hiking shoes for my dog training, and last Sunday I quelshed my around all morning, with soaking wet socks and feet. Not a nice feeling.
So, I would be really interested in purchasing a pair of those funky gumboots. I suppose we would have to be mindful, that if we used them in trialling, that they wouldn't effect our beautiful foot work for our turns etc.
The shoe design ones look really snazzy, would be totally waterprooof, and would allow us to move properly.

  2. Howdy - I have worn gumboots when I had my horse (muddy paddocks) and in the garden - they are hard to get a good fit and without laces or ties you cannot adjust. I found I often slipped and they offered little ankle or foot support generally - great for a little gardening on a muddy day, not for training. I have worn crocs when instructing, but barefoot so some grip and they were reasonably tight, so not comfortable for walking in for any length.
I have a pair of Scarpa leather hiking boots - they took a year to 'break in' (I just didn't wear them enough initially and it is tough work at first!) but now are fantastic - absolutely waterproof and very warm in winter with a pair of wooly socks. While they are quite heavy, they are nice to walk in - I've had them for 15 years and they look like new. I don't know why your hiking boots weren't waterproof - what brand are they? I would definately take them back!
